Em went in today for her blood work at Children's Hospital. The technicians drew 7 vials of blood. She did great with the blood work. We are very happy to say her platelet count has gone up to 94,000 ! Yeah! The doctor said he thought the last recent drop to 44,000, was due a virus (cold) she had. Her bruises have faded a bit and her energy level seems to be getting back to normal.
Beside her CBC blood work, she was tested for genetic bleeding disorders, Bernard Soulier Syndrome, MYH9-Related Thrombocytopnia and an ANA Screen for Lupus. We will know the results in about 2 weeks, the blood work had to be sent to the Wisconsin Blood Center for specialized testing.
We are hoping to meet with another Hematologist who is researching Bleeding Disorders in Women. Bleeding Disorders are more commonly found in women.
Overall it was a positive appointment. She still cannot play Volleyball which has been hard on her. But we are very hopeful that Emma's case of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura is acute and not a chronic condition. The doctors still call her condition Idiopathic because they do not know what is causing her platelets to drop. ITP diagnosis is a process of eliminating all possible causes. If her genetic tests come back positive for any of the above, then the name will change to Familial thrombocytopenia- genetic.
But for now we consider 94,000, this wonderful news.
We are planning to walk in the Tennessee Hemophilia and Bleeding Disorders Foundation Walk this Saturday.
